Heritage Center at Mahaffie Wedding {Scott+Paige}

Bride and Groom: Paige {McGhee} Blochberger + Scott Blochberger

Ceremony and Reception: Heritage Center at Mahaffie

Dress: Mia’s Bridal

How they met: Scott had been friends with Paige’s older brother, Bryan, since they were in middle school together. Paige kind of knew who Scott was, just because Bryan hung out with him so much and she thought he was so cute. When they attended KU, her oldest brother, Steve, came to Lawrence for the KU vs KSU football game my sophomore year (2006) and told her to come over to his friends’ house after the game, which happened to also be where Scott lived! Paige brought her friend and roommate and after playing video games with the boys, Katie and Paige decided to go out to the bars. Scott was saying the funniest things that really tickled her and she thought that he was really something special. Paige asked Scott for his phone number, in case they “got separated” while out and for the next two years, she would text him or call him every now and then. She knew that night that she really liked him and wanted to date him, but she knew it wasn’t the right time in her life. After she graduated college, Paige pursued Scott a little more seriously. In July 2008, Paige texted Scott and he invited her over to have a drink with is friends and parents. She met his whole family that night and had a great time that evening. They officially decided that we were a “couple” on October 8, 2008. Six years later (which went by so fast), they were engaged and starting to plan their wedding!

never actually dated. They both went on to the University of Kansas, and surprisingly enough never ran into each other. In spring of 2010, the year both of them should have graduated, Nick sent her a message on Facebook to see what she had been up to the last four years. They met up for drinks shortly after, and have been inseparable pretty much ever since.

May Feature: Madison Sanders Events

This month I bring you one talented wedding coordinator: Madison Sanders with Madison Sanders Events. Wedding coordinators are so important in your wedding planning process, so when I sat down with Madison she told me what made her stand out in the wedding industry.

Tell us about yourself and your company, Madison Sanders Events.

First and foremost, I am passionate about strong marriages, the legacy of family and good ‘ol southern hospitality. I began in the wedding industry in Dallas/Fort Worth before moving back to my hometown of Kansas City and marrying my true love, Bret. My industry experience, perfected planning processes and creative direction allow my clients to relax and enjoy their engagements to the fullest while looking forward to a beautiful wedding day.

Madison Sanders Events is a full-service planning and design company specializing in weddings and events in Kansas City. We create beautiful celebrations that showcase your unique love story. Our team will help bring your story to life by helping you select the perfect venue and stunning floral and stationery concepts, crafting your food and beverage menus, hiring top-notch entertainment, and recommending incredible photographers and videographers to capture each memory. With our customized planning process, you are able to relax and enjoy every bit of your engagement from the “Will you marry me?” to the “I do!”

How would you describe the typical MSE couple?

Our clients are anything but typical…and we don’t mean to brag, but we do believe we work with some of the best couples in Kansas City! Aside from being madly in love with one another, our clients are young professionals enjoying active and on-the- go lifestyles with very little time to dedicate to the intricate logistics and research that planning brings. They value family and friendships. They desire to create an event that is not only a perfect reflection of their love story, but also an environment in which their guests feel comfortable and well taken care of. They know that the finer details count and that this one day is a celebration of something bigger than themselves…it is a celebration of two families, two stories and two legacies joining together to create a brand new family, story and legacy that is uniquely their own.

What advice do you give to brides and grooms preparing for the wedding day?

Savor your season of engagement. It is not something meant to be stressful or something to be rushed through. There is so much learning and growing that takes place during this time that will prepare you for your life together. Allow your family to participate in your planning process (this is an exciting time for them as well!), but don’t be afraid to make your day your own.

Wedding Planner Feature February: Soiree Event Design

First of all, congratulations to anyone who just got engaged over Valentine’s Day! February is the month of love and I am pretty partial to Valentine’s Day because my husband proposed to me on Valentine’s Day 8 years ago! Wow, that’s a long time. If you are newly engaged this is going to be perfect for you, because I partnered with Decemeber Brammer this month who owns Soiree Event Designs. Decemeber and Lynsey have been in this business 8 years and are one of the leading wedding coordinator firms in Kansas City. I got to help with new head shots for their brand new website launch. These girls will take care of you on your wedding day down to the last detail.

Why do I need to hire a wedding planner?
A planner is the person that helps make your hard work and vision of your big day a reality! There is a relationship built on trust between you and your planner to make sure your day is as stress free as possible. When you hire a planner they will take the steps to ensure that you get to this point!

A planner is going to give you solid vendor recommendations of people that they have worked with before and who they trust. During the planning process, a planner is your vendor communicator and liaison. A planner will communicate with all of your vendors and email you only with updates, questions, and concerns so you are only getting questions from your coordinator and not all your vendors- only one point of contact. Along the way a planner will send you reminders of the things you might potentially forget. They will create a custom timeline for you, your bridal party, and vendors to ensure everyone knows where and when to be. This eliminates the stress of everyone asking you! The day of coordination is the area that will be the most helpful; the planner will be the person setting everything up the way discussed in prior planning meetings and meet your expectations so you or your family does not have to. They will make sure that your vision comes to life with every detail in place before you ever step foot into the venue. A planner will make sure that the entire ceremony is on time and each minute thereafter through the very end of the evening.

A wedding planner is a key component to truly making sure your day is enjoyable and only spent worrying about the most important thing at the end of the day, celebrating as a newly married couple with your family and friends!

What is Soiree Event Design known for?
Soiree is known for our attention to detail and unique event designs. We specialize in top-notch Month-Of Coordination with a team of highly experienced coordinators and even stronger relationships with vendors across the city.

What is the difference between a wedding planner and venue/church planner?
A wedding planner knows your day inside and out to ensure that everything is done to exceed your expectations from the beginning of the day till the very last vendor leaves the venue at the end of the night. A venue coordinator is definitely an asset to the overall success, however their main focus is the staff and operations of the venue during the event. A wedding planner’s focus is on you and all the details, making sure every aspect was done flawlessly!
